Horse Day 2017

Ladies and gentlemen of the Order: Horse Day 2017 is upon us.

This year’s celebration will fall on June 9th, leaving you with precious little time to ready yourselves. To aid you in your Horse Day 2017 prep, we have devised a brief Question and Answer (or Ques. & Ans.) to answer the most frequently asked Horse Day questions (FAHDQ).

Ques. What is Horse Day 2017?
Ans. Ha, ha, ha. Very funny. Even if you’ve only just joined our ranks, one doesn’t last very long in The Order without encountering a fellow member at the Lodge who is eager to tell you about his or her favorite Horse Day memories. In fact, I would wager you almost know too much about Horse Day 2017.
Ques. Why June 9th?
Ans. He, he, he. Sorry. I’m still laughing at your funny “I don’t know what Horse Day 2017 is” bit.
Horse Day is a “floating” holiday, so the exact date changes every year. In general, Horse Day occurs on the first day of summer that the O.o.t.G.L. Almanac predicts will last longer than 15 hours (based on sunrise and sunset calculations). With a projected 15 hours and 1 minute of sun by our calculations, (and double-checked by the good people at Calendar-365.com), that means this Friday is our beloved Horse Day!
(However, this is just a guide. Horse Day’s whims are quite capricious, so it could appear at any point.)
Ques. Do I need to bring my own horse?
Ans. If you have a favorite, or one that is particularly skilled in the sport, by all means bring a horse, but they will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
You should bring your own sunscreen, towel, and tuning fork.
Ques. My boss is not a member of The Order. How should I go about requesting the day off?
Ans. Fair question. Luckily, our Advisory Council has covered this very question previously.

Ques. After Horse Day 2016, I feel as though it might be best that I spend this holiday at a neighboring Lodge. How would I go about doing that?
Ans. Ah, yes. At some point we’ve all gotten swept up in the holiday and made Horse Day Decisions that we wish we could un-decide. The bad news first: you are not able to celebrate Horse Day 2017 anywhere else. You are tied to your Lodge and it would be a logistical nightmare if you were unable to attend. The good news: Horse Day is all about amnesty (as you know). Stride (or ride) into your Lodge with your head held high and know that whatever you may have done last Horse Day will go unmentioned, even if we’re all thinking about it every time we see you.

We shall see you on June 9th, Grand Locks! Bring your supplies, your five secrets on the appropriate strips of paper, and that gorgeous smile of yours, and let’s make this a Horse Day 2017 to remember!
