The Grand Locks in Pop Culture Series: A List of Coded Grand Lock References in the Star Wars Films (Part 9)

The “Life Day” celebrated by Wookiees on the planet of Kashyyyk (as seen in the Star Wars Holiday Special) is loosely based on The Order of the Grand Lock’s Horse Day. Similarities include eating ice cream, singing songs, and watching strange comedy performances by Harvey Korman.

During the famous asteroid chase in The Empire Strikes Back, a Grand Lock working on the special effects snuck a potato into the asteroid field as a little shout-out to the Locks’ favorite luncheon.

The bad guys always build a giant Death Orb of some type, right? Kind of reminds me of a rival secret society…

I was referring to The Guardians of the Orb, if you weren’t sure.

Let’s take a look at the name R2-D2. R is the 18th letter in the alphabet, D is the fourth. (18*2)-(4*2)=28. And, going into the Official Register, of course High Key #00028 was none other than C. Hugh Bacqua.

In Star Wars: A New Hope, Threepio says to his compatriot, “Lock the door, Artoo.” A command, or subtle shout out?

Indiana Jones’ weapon of choice is one that might seem rather familiar to those who engage in Grand Lock Sport! I’m talking of the bullwhip! And, sure, maybe Indiana Jones isn’t technically a Star Wars character, but this is the ninth time we’ve gone back to the Star Wars well! You guys stop requesting them, and maybe I won’t have to stretch like this.

Prior to reshoots, in an early cut of Rogue One, Cassian Andor refers to Saw Gerrera as a resistance leader and a “Tumbler,” establishing The Grand Lock into the Star Wars canon for the first time. It’s removal from the film was either due to Guardian of the Orb interference, or the same plot issues that resulted in the fact that we never saw that cool TIE fighter shot from the trailer in the final film.

“The Order of the Grand Lock” is an anagram for “Fett Hereld God Kho Rancor.” What does it mean? Well, obviously the first and last words inspired Boba Fett and the rancor, both found in Jabba’s Palace in Return of the Jedi. I have no earthly clue what the rest is talking about.
